Groundwater Replenishment in Pico Rivera

LADWP Customers will be hearing more and more about groundwater replenishment using recycled water from the Tillman sewage treatment plant in the San Fernando Valley as LA moves to cleanup 80 closed and contaminated wells.  Other parts of the county are doing it for a long time!

Seniors and others interested in learning how to protect themselves from fraud related to home repair, insurance, finances, identity theft and more are invited to a free Aug. 24 workshop sponsored by Sen. Ted W. Lieu.

Scheduled to be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Felicia Mahood Multipurpose Senior Center at 11338 Santa Monica Blvd., in West Los Angeles, the event is one of series Lieu holds to help constituents protect themselves.

In addition, information will be available on Lieu’s legislative package, which includes protecting consumers from predatory used-car dealers with Senate Bill 956, a consumer-protection measure seeking milestone protections for used-car buyers by cracking down on predatory dealers where interest can be as high as 30 percent.  The Torrance Democrat hopes SB 956 receives final passage prior to the Legislature’s scheduled Aug. 31 adjournment of the 2011-12 session.

Please join us at our annual Mar Vista Community Fall Festival.  Our theme of “Creative Connections” recognizes the incredibly diverse ways in which our community members connect with each other.  The Silent Auction proceeds will help with the expenses of the Festival, and support future projects at our Mar Vista Rec. Center.  And the new Green Zone is devoted to games, products and non-profit organizations sharing tips for a sustainable lifestyle. It will also have recycling and compost bins, a reusable bag share station and a water refill station.
