You may have noticed a few more people visiting South Mar Vista yesterday. The 3rd annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase drew over 300 people from as far away as Idylwild, Indio, Dana Point, West Hills, Pasadena and of course locals on foot and many, many on bicycle. Our area was well represented having a dozen of the over 80 gardens participating.
The goal of the tour is to inspire more drought tolerant front and rear yard plantings that can save precious potable water from being wasted on turf. The drought may have been declared over but it won’t take much to push our desert back into multiple dry years.
So please look around at your leisure with a map still on the website at http://marvistagreengardenshowcase.com or pick up an extra map at the Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee Booth at the Farmer’s market Sunday. Take a look at the front yards and see what may inspire you to make the change and you to can be on the tour next year!
